Nature & Landscape Photography
STILL OUTDOORS is the photography brand of Simon Evans, a nature and landscape photographer based in the North West of England.

My work captures the intimacy of the changing seasons across the British countryside with patience, ethical fieldcraft, and a genuine respect for the outdoors.
If you love the outdoors, you’re in the right place.
The Art of Seeing
“Photography is so much more than pressing a shutter. It’s a way of seeing, a way of feeling. It’s a chance to capture a moment of emotion rather than chase perfection.
Spending time outdoors helps us to appreciate our local landscapes, the changing seasons, and the beauty of wildlife. When we slow down and connect with nature, we begin to notice the smaller details that matter.“

Seasonal Favourites
A small selection of photographs inspired by the changing seasons.
Spring, the season of renewal
The return of the dawn chorus, fresh greens, and the first wildflowers of the year can only mean one thing: springtime has arrived. Spring transforms the countryside with new life, and it’s always a pleasure to photograph.

Photography Through the Seasons
My photography follows seasonal changes throughout the English countryside. Out in the field, I like to slow down and look for small details that are easy to miss. Whether I’m in a local woodland, out on the hills, or looking for wildlife, observation is at the heart of my approach.
The Story Behind STILL OUTDOORS
I created STILL OUTDOORS to bring together my love of photography and the natural world. It’s a place to share emotive seasonal photography, pass on what I’ve learned over the years, and hopefully inspire others to find their own connection with nature.
Learn how my connection to nature and passion for photography led to the creation of STILL OUTDOORS.

Ethical Photography Guides
Alongside my long-term projects, I create ethical guides to share my knowledge and passion for nature and landscape photography.
My latest guide is dedicated to the ghost of the night sky. The iconic barn owl.

A Guide to Barn Owl Photography: Fieldcraft and Behaviour
This guide is all about precision fieldcraft and a respectful, ethical approach to photographing wild barn owls.
You’ll learn how to recognise subtle signs of activity, anticipate behaviour, blend into the landscape, work with changing light, and craft dramatic compositions; all while ensuring your presence goes unnoticed.

Learn, Explore, and Photograph the Natural World
From regular Field Notes and Blog posts to detailed photography and fieldcraft Guides, this is where I share the techniques, fieldcraft skills, and observations that shape my landscape and wildlife photography. You’ll find a mix of practical advice, gear reviews, and real moments from the natural world, all shared to inspire your own journey outdoors.
Here’s what I’ve been capturing and writing about lately:

The Side of Wildlife Photography You Don’t See on YouTube
Social media can be misleading at times, especially for wildlife photography. More often than not, we only see the best of an artist’s work, or the exciting cuts that make a video. And it makes sense,…
